With new social media platforms popping up every day, it’s tempting to sign on to all of them. Here is a short list of some of the platforms out there:
The key to a great social media marketing effort is to concentrate on a few platforms and do the very well. It’s almost impossible to handle 10 or 12 platforms (especially on your own), and do them consistently. And consistent, regular posting and updating is what makes social media work.
How do you decide how many platforms you can handle?
Decide how much time EVERY DAY you can dedicate to social media
It’s that easy! If you can set aside 30 minutes a day, then you can probably handle 2 sites, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. If you only have 10 minutes, maybe concentrate on Facebook.
My rule of thumb: Count on 10 minutes per day for every platform you manage. This gives you a few minutes to schedule posts, and take a glance at your news feeds to see what’s trending. So, do the math: Managing 3 platforms effectively takes 30 minutes a day.
